Yuyu Wang (b. 1991) currently works as an artist in Shanghai. She received her master's degree in sculpture from the Slade School of Fine Art, University College London in 2016, and her bachelor's degree in fine arts from Birmingham Institute of Art and Design) in 2014.

Yuyu Wang’s practice consistently revolves around the liminal states presented by the movement of bodies and matter. She investigates how daily perceptions, through processes of repetition and accumulation, come to present landscape-like characteristics.

Her practice emphasizes collaboration with materials (such as silicone, fabric, metal, and organic objects) through embodied labor. By understanding the physicality and cultural metaphors of matter, she attempts to re-examine the origin and agency of materials, thereby constructing symbiotic forms that are derived from life yet transcend mere mimicry. These forms act as vessels capturing moments of transformation, aiming to invite an intimate, multi-species dialogue.

Her recent practice focuses on non-human subjects that coinhabit with humans in urban spaces (e.g., insects, parasitic plants), examining how they mobilize natural energy suppressed by the order of civilization. Her work explores the possibility that liminal states such as “adhesion”, “parasitism”, and “infiltration” can themselves function as strategies for survival and critique.
