ShanghART Westbund is honoured to present the exhibition Plasmodesmata, opening on April 30 and on view through June 1. Curated by Zhu Yujie, the exhibition brings together thirteen artists in the creation of an interdisciplinary symbiotic system.

"Plasmodesmata" originally refers to the communication mechanism through which cells transmit information. As a multi-layered metaphor, it animates a contemporary art context composed of mycelium installations, biological materials, microscopic imagery, and visual data. Information drifts, maps, interferes, and reconstructs amongst organisms, pointing to ecological phenomena such as penetration, rupture, and reorganization. The exhibition invites the audience to step into a living system situated between science and perception.
